Women of the US Ski Team on Aspen Mountain

In advance of next week's Women's World Cup ski races, members of the team have been practicing on the slopes of Aspen Mountain. Olympic gold medalist Mikaela Shiffrin and fellow team members Katharine Irwin and Paula Moltzan appeared in today's paper, as part of a story about the 19-year-old Shiffrin. The rest of the team will arrive next week and we're hosting many of them, plus the team from Slovenia. We look forward to getting out next Friday and Saturday to cheer for them all!

Celebrate with the AVSC

Next Tuesday, November 25, the Aspen Valley Ski and Snowboard Club (AVSC) and the Aspen Skiing Company invite the public to help celebrate the opening of the Stapleton Alpine Training Center at Aspen Highlands. The event takes place from 2-5pm at the Highlands Pizza Company, with appetizers and other refreshments on hand while you learn about this new training venue for our young athletes.

Family Science Night

While the snow continues to pile up on the slopes and in town, middle-schoolers and their adults are invited to Family Science Night at Basalt Middle School tonight from 6-8pm. The event, which sold out last year, is open to all valley middle school students, but participants must register since space is limited. Science Night will be presented by Brandon Pollard of the John McConnell Math & Science Center from Grand Junction. Expect cool experiments and plenty of hands-on activities and demonstration tables.
